Musikminne från Jesse Kivel

Två band jag har lyssnat enormt mycket på är Kisses och Princeton. Låtar som Bermuda, Midnight lover (Kisses) och To the alps och Shout it out (Princeton) är fantastiska dansanta poplåtar. Jesse Kivel var med i båda banden. I Kisses tillsammans med sin fru Zinzi och i Princeton med bland andra sin tvillingbror Matt. Jag träffade själv Jesse i Malmö när Kisses spelade på Debaser 2010. Jag slogs av hur trevlig han var och spelningen var fantastisk även om bandet förtjänade en större publik. Solokarriären för Jesse startade med singeln LA Story och fortsatte med EP:n Content samma år. 2020 kom albumet Infinite Jess, ett ganska avslappnat sound men ett strålande album som växte mycket för mig. Nu är albumet Life and Death at Party Rock här, ett album med ett mer organiskt sound och med detaljer som förför lyssnarens öron. Albumet är dedikerat till fantastiska Jason Molina (Songs: Ohia) som tragiskt nog gick bort 2013. Idag gästar Jesse bloggen för att dela med sig av ett musikminne!

In college, my brother and I convinced our parents to take a trip to New York to see family. Our primary goal was to see Oasis play live at Roseland Ballroom. Oasis' Behind The Music on VH1 was one of the main reasons my brother and I wanted to play guitar and make music. We always worshipped the Gallagher brothers, from Liam's parkas to Noel's amazing sense of dry and witty humor. I remember waiting outside, in line with a ton of much older Oasis fans and the excitement of seeing a band like this in a smaller venue was incredibly memorable. 

The Soundtrack of Our Lives opened up which was a fun and very dynamic show and I just remember going nuts when Oasis took the stage. I bought a dark green and red Oasis shirt but I am not sure what happened to it. My first real guitar purchase was Noel's Epiphone Supernova. I had come up with this Guitar Center hack which got me incredibly low rates on guitars. Guitar Center was willing to match any other shop's rate on their inventory and the internet was still relatively young at this point. I found a guitar shop in the midwest that would only send you quotes for their instruments over email. The quotes were always 20 to 30% less than the real cost of the guitar. I printed those quotes out many times and got crazy deals on the epiphone supernova as well as other instruments. 

Anyways, the show was brilliant and the Gallaghers will always be the musicians who personify rock n roll for me.
