"It’s like the artistic version of caffeine"

Jag har berörts mycket av isländska Sjana Rut och hennes musik genom åren. Hon har gått igenom mycket tungt men också lyckats växa sig starkare igen. Som i senaste singeln, den dansanta Up, som släpper iväg allt jobbigt och genast känner man sig lättare igen - nästan redo för att flyga. Hon har släppt många starka låtar i år och utöver att bygga upp sig själv igen - och må bättre utan destruktiva pusselbitar som försöker trassla sig in och förmörka ens mående - så bygger hon samtidigt upp något fantastiskt musikaliskt. Hon är fantastisk. Idag pratar vi lite om senaste singeln och om året som snart är till ända. 

How are you doing at the moment, both personally and creatively? 

- I feel amazing! I’ve cleared out a lot in my personal life, and it’s left me feeling energized and more like myself than I have in years. 

- Creatively, everything is flowing. I’m painting, making music, exploring ideas, and just following whatever feels fun and alive. It’s like the artistic version of caffeine! 

Could you tell us a little bit about your new song Up and what inspired its sound and theme? 

- Up is about letting go of whatever’s weighing you down and rising up into a lighter and more playful space. It’s a fun song with cinematic 80’s inspired landscape and just the right amount of attitude. My kids actually named the song, so it stuck. 

Looking back at the past year, what will you remember the most - personally and musically? 

- This year was all about enjoying life - seeing things through my kids’ eyes, baking, playing, and letting my inner child out to play. That lightness carried into my music too: I focused on capturing feelings and moods rather than overthinking, which reminded me why I fell in love with creating music in the first place and it brought back early childhood memories of the magic music holds. 

What are your plans for next year? 

- Next year is the start of something beautiful. I’m focusing on making new music and continuing to enjoy the ride! I want to create songs that capture little moments and moods. Something playful, fun, and full of energy. Fully enjoying the process and connecting with people through music again.
